Water sports - swimming facility Mississippi
Background
The Courthouse Inc. Fitness Facility board of directors in Jackson, MS had a problem – their members wanted to use the swimming pool year-round, but the pool was an outdoor pool. Even in Mississippi there are days too cool to swim outside. The board needed to respond to the members with an idea that was quality built, cost-effective and able to be implemented and completed quickly.
Scope of Work
Realizing that both time and money were paramount to the Courthouse board of directors, Veldeman suggested erecting a 36m by 60m long polygon fabric structure over the existing swimming pool.
Solution
The board agreed and the entire structure was erected by a crew of five Veldeman employees in less than three weeks time. The building is equipped with a total HVAC system to accommodate the chill of winter. Nine tempered glass retractable garage doors take advantage of the temperate breezes during the spring and summer.
Blue Ferrari fabric covers the building up to the eave joint with the balance of the fabric being translucent to take full advantage of the sun. Four electric ventilators and six passive louvers ensure good air transfer. Twenty-eight 400 watt lights brighten activities on overcast days and late into the night. “We love our pool!”, said Tom Williams, treasurer of Courthouse, Inc. “It’s the best in the state. The entire crew was a pleasure to work with. I would recommend them to anyone. Veldeman Project Management walked me through the entire project and kept me posted every step of the way,” concluded Williams.
Water sports - swimming pool Alphen aan de Rijn
As a result of a fire at the municipal swimming pool, the local authority urgently needed a roof with a 3 year lifespan for an existing outdoor pool. Various options were examined before Veldeman was selected as the value-for-money solution.
Rapid construction
The hall had to be assembled very quickly as there was no alternative nearby for clubs and residents.
A lot of light
The sides have windows to let in a lot of light, producing a very pleasant design. The hall is also fully air-conditioned.
Insulation
To reduce heating costs roof sheets with extra insulation were installed.

Tennis - Tennis club Capelle aan den IJssel
Veldeman built the largest tennis hall in the Netherlands for tennis club Capelle aan den IJssel in Sportpark De Schenkel. The polygon hall houses 6 tennis courts in an area of 40 m x 116 m.
“This is a profitable investment for the club,” explains Stef De Coninck, Business Manager Sport & Leisure. “The side walls can be removed in the summer, so the hall can be used throughout the year. With translucent roof fabric, lighting costs can be kept down. Floor-heating has been installed to save even more on energy costs.
A unique aspect of this project is the terracotta colour of the gables and trim of the roof canvas. That ensures that the hall matches the look of the gravel outdoor courts.
The hall is big enough to house international competitions.
Tennis - Tennis Academy Justine Henin
Justine Henin's Tennis Academy invested in the renovation of La Palestre tennis club in Limelette (Waals-Brabant). Veldeman Structure Solutions was brought in to do this job. The tennis club, which already has seven outer and six inner courts, was extended with 3 more covered courts.
All sidewalls can be removed, up to a height of 3 m, for a longer period, so that the real 'outdoor sports experience' can be enjoyed no matter what the weather.

Tennis - Tennisclubs of Elewijt and Estaimbourg
Tennis Club De Wehzel in Elewijt and Tennis Club Match Point in Estaimbourg have benefited from the installation of a new tennis hall supplied by Veldeman, rendering weather-interrupted games a thing of the past. Both structures were built in the space of only two weeks.
In summer the side panels can be removed along the entire length of the hall to create a feeling of playing outdoors. A further advantage of this is that spectators on the club's terrace can follow the game.

Tennis - Indoor tennis accommodation in Canberra
Veldeman realised a project in Canberra entitled the TenFit project. It included the construction of indoor tennis courts and it is 36 x 160 meters. The hall has nine indoor courts and in the middle an area for changing rooms, showers, a health club, and a cafeteria. It was made with the local climate in mind: in winter, the hall can be closed and heated; in summer, when temperatures easily reach 45°C in Australia, special ventilation shafts in the roof can be opened so that the heat can escape. The ventilation channels were designed in such a way that rain cannot get in.

Football - indoor football hall KRC Genk
KRC Genk football team plays in Belgium’s first division. The team have been national champions three times, won the Belgian cup three times and they will participate in the Europa League in the 2012-2013 season. This year they even played in the Champions League with a creditable draw against the final winner.
It is only normal that such a top class team should be able to train in all weather conditions. Up until now bad weather meant the team always had to head for an arena, where they were reduced to playing on sand in somewhat uncomfortable conditions. This is why KRC Genk went on the lookout for an alternative. Their search led them to Veldeman Structure Solutions.
Veldeman presented a proposal for an indoor football hall, in the first instance both for hire and for purchase. Following an extensive study the club decided to purchase a hall at the end of 2011. A steel structure was decided upon (SFS, Steel Fabric Structure) of 40m by 70 m with a side height of as much as 8.40 m.
Following approval of the building application, in February 2012 the foundation work began. The hall has been completed and ready for use since the end of May.
It has translucent roof fabrics which let in natural, uniform light, thus bringing down lighting costs and leading to major energy savings. Playing comfort is also improved. Fabrics in the blue of KRC Genk have been used for the side walls and gables, and the club’s logo, covering a surface area of 16 m², is clearly visible on both gables. The side walls can be readily removed thus creating a semi open atmosphere in summer whilst protecting against glare, rain and overheating. There is boarding for additional variations on the game. Along the length of the hall (70 m) this is 3m high, along its width (40m) 2m high.
The main advantage of this indoor football hall is that it can be used throughout the year. Rain, snow and frost are no longer a problem, and high temperatures need no longer stop play either, thus ensuring the profitability of the investment.
Football - indoor training centre Milton Keynes
Veldeman Structure Solutions built a new indoor training centre in Milton Keynes, to the north of London. Because of our vast experience in sports halls, our long reference list, and guaranteed good service and quality, MK Dons decided to work with Veldeman.
The result is a brilliant structure that brings the outdoor feeling inside, thanks to the translucent fabric. The structure was installed in 2 weeks and MK Dons was very impressed with the result.
John Cove, director of MK Dons, said: "In past conversations, I always referred to an open air hall because I could not really visualize what to expect. But now that I see the result, I can truly say that this is one of the most beautiful training centres I have ever seen. This fantastic fabric structure can easily compete with traditional buildings."
