Construction facilities - Toyota
Veldeman helps Toyota deal with peak demand
Zeebrugge is Toyota's gateway to Europe. All new Toyota cars from Japan and the United Kingdom arrive at the Toyota Vehicle Logistics Centre in Zeebrugge, ahead of forwarding to European dealers.
After the show season there is a peak in vehicles arrivals to the port. To absorb the extra rush, Veldeman Structure Solutions was commissioned to build a structure where the cars could be given the final pre-delivery inspection and issued with registration papers. The resulting aluminium hall is a 15x65 m structure with side panels that are 2.8 m high.
The staggered entrance at the front facilitates the steady flow of traffic in and out of the hall. Inside, there are eight workstations, each fully equipped with all appropriate tools and resources, including compressed air.
Composting centre - Helmdon
A new composting centre in Helmdon
As more and more environmental regulations come into force around the world, organisations across the USA and Europe have turned to Veldeman for high quality, competitively priced solutions that are rust-free and can be hermetically sealed.
We recently fulfilled an order from the Helmdon facility for three new tension fabric structures (width 30m) with automatic cargo doors. Each TFS was needed to handle every aspect of the composting process: shredding kitchen and garden waste; housing pre-treatment anaerobic digestion equipment; and storing dry materials such as glass, paper, metals and plastic prior to use elsewhere.
The translucent sheeting provides a natural working environment, while the membrane is completely sealed at ground level to ensure full control over internal conditions. Horizontal and vertical tensioning of the membrane eradicates any flapping too. All told, the new structures provide all the advantages of a permanent facility with the added bonus of faster delivery and more competitive pricing. As well as added flexibility when it comes to relocation or repurposing.
Hangar - Eindhoven Airport
Veldeman installs a hangar at Eindhoven Airport
When Eindhoven Airport needed a low-cost hangar that could be erected easily and delivered fast, they turned to Veldeman.
We met all their needs with a 15x15x3 m solution, providing a natural working environment with the added versatility of being relocatable and expandable.
Terminal/check-in - Airport Leeds Bradford and East Midland
Temporary expansion of the existing terminal at Leeds Bradford with Veldeman's help
The travel trade is notorious for sudden or unusual peaks in demand. Two UK airports recently dealt with sudden capacity problems in an innovative way. Leeds Bradford International has expanded existing terminal/check-in capacity to cope with the summer rush with a Veldeman design that will remain open for 5-10 years. And East Midlands Airport has installed a semi-permanent 5-year solution to tide them over until a new, traditional building is completed.
Both solutions provide perfect insulation, with a skin either side of a rock wool filling to achieve optimal U-values. The structures also come with air conditioning and heating, while steel cladding and an anti-vandalism system guarantee great security. Additional options included automatic doors and glass windows.
Storage - Beenackers
A fabric structure to store feed and house cows
Beenackers is one of a number of farms to prefer a fabric structure to a more traditional farm building. The 36x42 m solution with steel frame, high-quality membrane and cargo door will store feed and house cows.
The translucent sheeting produces a more natural environment, while the structure can be quickly relocated or expanded when the farm's needs change. Other benefits are fast delivery and competitive pricing compared with traditional buildings.
Water sports - swimming pool Alphen aan de Rijn
As a result of a fire at the municipal swimming pool, the local authority urgently needed a roof with a 3 year lifespan for an existing outdoor pool. Various options were examined before Veldeman was selected as the value-for-money solution.
Rapid construction
The hall had to be assembled very quickly as there was no alternative nearby for clubs and residents.
A lot of light
The sides have windows to let in a lot of light, producing a very pleasant design. The hall is also fully air-conditioned.
Insulation
To reduce heating costs roof sheets with extra insulation were installed.

Tennis - Tennis Academy Justine Henin
Justine Henin's Tennis Academy invested in the renovation of La Palestre tennis club in Limelette (Waals-Brabant). Veldeman Structure Solutions was brought in to do this job. The tennis club, which already has seven outer and six inner courts, was extended with 3 more covered courts.
All sidewalls can be removed, up to a height of 3 m, for a longer period, so that the real 'outdoor sports experience' can be enjoyed no matter what the weather.

Tennis - Tennisclubs of Elewijt and Estaimbourg
Tennis Club De Wehzel in Elewijt and Tennis Club Match Point in Estaimbourg have benefited from the installation of a new tennis hall supplied by Veldeman, rendering weather-interrupted games a thing of the past. Both structures were built in the space of only two weeks.
In summer the side panels can be removed along the entire length of the hall to create a feeling of playing outdoors. A further advantage of this is that spectators on the club's terrace can follow the game.

Football - indoor training centre Milton Keynes
Veldeman Structure Solutions built a new indoor training centre in Milton Keynes, to the north of London. Because of our vast experience in sports halls, our long reference list, and guaranteed good service and quality, MK Dons decided to work with Veldeman.
The result is a brilliant structure that brings the outdoor feeling inside, thanks to the translucent fabric. The structure was installed in 2 weeks and MK Dons was very impressed with the result.
John Cove, director of MK Dons, said: "In past conversations, I always referred to an open air hall because I could not really visualize what to expect. But now that I see the result, I can truly say that this is one of the most beautiful training centres I have ever seen. This fantastic fabric structure can easily compete with traditional buildings."

Veldeman joins 10th anniversary celebrations at Maasmechelen Village
On 23 October it was exactly ten years ago that the first boutiques opened their doors in Maasmechelen Village, Belgium’s premier outlet shopping paradise. This milestone obviously had to be celebrated!
Especially for the occasion, Veldeman erected a multi-story tent measuring 25 x 20 m, coupled to a high-rise aluminium hall of 25 x 20 m. Anouk Lepère, Stijn Helsen, Michael Goldenberg and hundreds of invited guests mainly from the worlds of fashion and economics were treated to live music, delicious snacks and loads of fun.
Tennis star Justine Henin serves up champagne
Multiple grand slam winner Justine Henin christened a trailing suction hopper dredger called 'Congo River' owned by the Deme company by breaking the traditional champagne bottle over the bow. The Belgian star saw the ship launch into the water at the IHC Merwede shipyard at Capelle aan den Ijssel in the Netherlands on 21 January 2011.
The 'Congo River' is 168 metres long, 38 metres wide and crammed with state-of-the-art technology, making it one of the top-performing and most economical dredgers in today's market.
Guava commissioned Veldeman to provide the temporary accommodation for the christening of the 'Congo River'. The accommodation included a guest registration area, an area for the academic session, a covered terrace for the christening ceremony, the reception area and an impressive roof for the dinner on the beach.
It was a terrific event, masterfully orchestrated by Guava and safely accommodated by Veldeman.

The high inside clearance combined with a standard black interior have won wide acclaim from numerous audiovisual companies because of the impeccable qualities for internal acoustics, lighting and special effects.
Throughout its 13-year existence, the Afro-Latino Festival has consistently used services provided by Veldeman. Creative use of large spaces at the EWEA fair
How do you transform a large existing space into a site that has different compartments, each with its own use and style?
Setting up tents in permanent exhibition or other buildings is a solution with a host of benefits: fast to set up and tear down, with a variety of options for personalisation, availability in a wide variety of shapes, dimensions and heights, etc., etc.
Veldeman Structure Solutions demonstrated this yet again at the most recent European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) fair held at the Brussels Expo from 14-17 March, 2011.
EWEA is the representative of the wind-energy industry and promotes the use of the technology in Europe and around the world.
During the fair, 2 tents with side walls 5.4 m high were set up for use as conference halls in Palace 12. Because of the unique curvature of the roof of Palace 12, a tent with a variable ridge and side wall height was used.
That was all in a day’s work for the experienced set-up teams of Veldeman Structure Solutions, which specialises in creating spaces for your events. Trade fair, festival, event, private party, logistical emergency, sports application…we almost certainly have the appropriate solution for your project.
Even if you just need extra space, we’ll be please to help you out.
16,000 m² in tents for the Libelle Summer Week
For the 8th year in a row Veldeman built a tented village for the Libelle Summer Week, which took place from 16th to 22nd of May.
For this fantastic event from the women’s magazine Libelle, Veldeman set up 263 alu halls and party tents with a total surface of 16,000 m² on the beach in Almere (The Netherlands). For the erection, 45 truck loads from Bree to Almere were needed, over a distance of 180 km one way. An assembly team of 20 persons worked at the site during 5 weeks.
With over 84,000 visitors this year, the Libelle Summer Week proved to be a great success again. The visitors, most of whom were women, could shop, sample, taste, attend workshops, enjoy live performances, fashion shows etc.

Tent complex at Foire des Vignerons in Namur
Under the glorious spring sunshine, Place du Grognon in Namur was extremely welcoming for the first edition of the Foire des Vignerons, which took place from 8 to 11 April 2011.
The lovely location and the well balanced selection of French wines served as a pleasant setting for the tent complex that Veldeman set up there.
The 15 x 30 m pavilion with reinforced floor was home to the 38 booths, each representing one of the 14 different wine-growing regions of France.
A restaurant was set up on the first floor of the 10 x 20 m multi-storey tent. Two highlights of the city of Namur were absolutely essential in creating the mood: the imposing citadel and the Parliament of Wallonia.
Did you miss it? Not to worry: 2012 and 2013 are already booked and you will be able to sample and buy wines from the producers and expand your wine cellar in Namur.
Finale of VT4’s 'Superhuis' in Phoenix arched hall
VT4 presenters Véronique De Kock and Cara Van der Auwera recently gave away a move-in-ready energy-efficient home worth €220,000. Over the past season of 'Househunting' produced form VT4 by production house Sultan Sushi – 100 house keys were handed out. The set-up was very simple: whoever had the key to the Superhouse would win it.
The exciting live ‘Win a Superhouse’ show was held in the new Veldeman Structure Solutions’ Phoenix hall. Veldeman provided complete customised construction for the event. The arched hall was equipped with transparent side panels, so the camera crew could shoot from every possible angle. It was also the first time that this hall, which has a standard side height of 2.8 m, was put up with a height of 3.8 m. The efficiency of the set-up by Veldeman Structure Solutions saw the hall being completed less than a week after the first contact had been made.
Exhibition pavilion on the beach at Knokke for photography festival
The international photography festival of 2011 was the 33rd in the series. Clearly, this event is here to stay! Once again, the festival is giving a surprising and varied overview of international photography, with leading photographers from Belgium and abroad, as well as exhibitions for promising young photographers.
The festival is held in a variety of locations in the municipality of Knokke-Heist. The principal locations are the exhibition pavilion, which Veldeman set up on the beach near Rubens Square, and the Knokke-Heist Cultural Centre.
If you happen to be in the vicinity of Knokke-Heister this spring, you must add it to your itinerary: not only does this town have a beautiful beach, lovely nature walks and an extensive selection of shops, it also has an extremely interesting cultural programme to offer, as well.
The international photography festival continues until 13 June 2011.
